Hi
I was experimenting with Word when I came across the following problem.

Adding a border to a particular word.

Highlight the word.
Select Format > Borders and Shading. The Borders and Shading window is
displayed.
Select Text from the Apply to drop-down list box.
Select Box from the Setting options.

Perfect! The required word gets the border.
Now, I want a custom border, I only want lines at the top and bottom of the
word.

Select Custom from the Setting options.
Click the required buttons to apply the required borders.

Stunned!!! I have only two options - Border on all four sides or none.

Am I doing something wrong or is it MS Word?

Cheers,
Mayur
