I'm a professional technical communicator and I'm writing an essay (as part of a

How do you feel about the following statement:

largely irrelevant to their professional development."

Thanks for your help.

Personally, I think that if you replace "professional technical communicators" with
"people," you'll have a fairly accurate statement. Most people tend to act on the
ethics that have been taught to them throughout their lives by their families, teachers,
clergy, etc., and don't spend a lot of time contemplating "ethics" as a "subject"
related to "prefessional development," except perhaps when Enron comes up in
a conversation. And if they happen to find themselves in a business situation where
they're not certain what the proper thing to do is, they're more likely to refer to the
business practice policies provided by their employers, not consult STC's articles.
