In my experience, titles are VERY arbitrary, and I've had little success
in trying to modify mine - they are simply handed down from On High, with
no consistency from one company to the next.

So far I've been a documentation specialist (on an entry-level gig), a
documentation team lead, a documentation engineer (I guess because we also
created help systems, but I considered the title a bit over-the-top), and
a proposal coordinator.

But if somebody asks ME what I do, I tell them I'm a technical writer.
