TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
::: The only
::: real opposition to certification would be from those who
::: think they would be weeded out by the process.
Or those with enough common sense to know the limits of a wrapper. ;)
If you're confused, yes I oppose and no I'm not worried about being weeded
out.
::: Given that 150+ colleges and universities are cranking out
::: new "technical
::: communicators" at an alarming rate, someone is going to
::: have to do something
::: along those lines fairly soon, or the field is going to
::: flooded out of existence.
Ah, yes... The college grads entering the work force. About 50% of them have
no idea what they want to be doing with their professional lives. About 50%
of those who have a clue know it's not technical writing. About 50% of those
who know it's tech writing they want to be doing will actually target their
job search appropriately. About 10% of those who know how to hunt for a job
will get one they want.
And of course there's the 2 year review, or what I call "spawning season"...
You know, when many of the new writers get fed up with the drudgery of
writing information all day and begin looking for excitement in another line
of work...
