I have exactly the opposite experience. Although Wi-Fi is different from
other acronyms, in that the terms it represents don't give much explicit
information about the technology, the connotation is great -- music and
radio and therefore, wirelessness. Or wirelessitude. Or whatever.

Anyway, when you're at a party, would you rather say you worked on the Wi-Fi
Alliance, or the 802.11 Alliance? I think all acronyms should be similarly
sexified.
