Archie's original question was:

Is this stuff know to the common joe (in all languages) as "hook and loop?"

My reply:

I don't know if I represent the common joe, but if someone used either "hook and loop" or "touch fastener", I wouldn't know what was meant. When I hear "hook and loop", I think of "hook and eye". Touch fastener means nothing. I think the Velcro people are fighting a losing battle on the term. It seems to be in common use both as a noun and as a verb, at least among the people I know.

Archie seemed to have the right solution by using the trademark symbol with the word Velcro. I looked up the LL Bean website and they use the expression "Velcro-closure" with the registered trademark symbol with the word Velcro. Even without the picture, I would know what that meant.
