Well . . . well . . . well.

ATM, Adobe Type Manager, Automatic Teller Machine, and
Anti-Tank Missile?

In the ads, "PDF" and "Adobe" are linked for the
audience. We might need to know what it is if "Adobe"
has more than one of them.

As for portable, well, maybe. It's an electronic file.
You don't need to know "P" in "PDF" stands for
"portable" just for the sake of saying one can move it
like other electronic files. Moreover, how portable is
it? If my "PDF" is 15MB, how am I going to "port" it?
What are the issues? Will a floppy disk work? Etc.

No. I'd say, it is not necessary to know that the "P"
in "PDF" is for "portable" nor need you know from the
TV ads that "PDF" stands for "Portable Document
Format." You just need to know that "PDF" and "Adobe"
and "Acrobat" are linked (lest we start wondering what
"PDF" has to do with "Barnum and Bailey" <g>), that
way, when you have a PDF on your computer you'll
associate it with "Adobe" or if someone askes for your
resume as a "PDF," you'll think, "hmmmm, Acrobat,
nope, don't got that." That is, I agree with the iTwit
thoughts.

Cheers,

Sean
