My view depends on the way I'm using the information.
Neilson's points on PDF's poor interface for online
viewing are correct; trying to read a PDF directly over
the internet is an agonizing experience. If it's info
I want to view now and don't expect tor revisit frequently
I'd rather it be HTML. OTOH, if I want to download the
info to my local drive for frequent offline reference, it's
HTML that's the pain and having it available as a PDF is preferable. When I put info online I create HTML versions
for online viewing and include a link to a PDF of the
print version for download. One of my long-term "holy
grails" is to find/develop an easy way to single-source
info destined for both web and print.

Actually, as much NOT a fan of Jakob Nielsen as I am, I'm in total
agreement with his article. I hate PDF for anything other than a hardcopy
document whose publication is completely under my control. As a final
softcopy deliverable I think they're awful.
