Right. It's best to freelance in another
industry/market to avoid these potential legal
problems.
It's also good to get your own equipment and software,
as you will definitely get into big trouble if caught
doing side work on your employer's machine or using
your employer's software at home. After hours or not,
they are not your resources to use for non-work (your
employer's work) purposes.
I knew someone who took their software home for
personal use, and somehow their employer caught wind
of it. The events that unfolded were not pretty.
