Have you considered using 'tap'?

Choose does sound good, but it does not invite an action. A person could
choose an option but he does not know what to do after that. I am talking
about the extremely D-UH! user.

Tap does invite action. Even if you take it literally, it means a light
touch.

I did look at a Palm OS help, as their products are touch-screen driven.
They use 'tap'.
