XML allows for application and platform independence
when authoring. Though a nifty idea, the resources
available to the common writer are very "techie", thus
I don't expect initial acceptance to be strong among
the tech writing community. Yes, Word and FM do have
XML capabilities, but they come with a demand for
strong knowledge in XML (even though you're authoring
in a GUI) as well as in structuring a solid DTD and
using XSLTs effectively.
