John asked:

> Do you find yourself doing this? Is it wrong to do this? Is it a good
thing to do?
> How far do you take this? Do you let others in your company know
you're doing this?

I might look at a doc if it's on the printer and was the job before
mine, but I don't go snooping for stuff. I prefer meetings as a way to
pick up info: many people hate meetings, but I like being a fly on the
wall (aka person in the back of the room) and just listening to what's
going on.

Maybe it's easier for me to pick up info because I work at a relatively
small company.

Then Guy asked:

> Do you prefer the quiet environment of offices, or the more exposed
one of cubicles?

I've worked in both, and I prefer offices. But I'll get a little more
specific and say that I prefer the two-person office I'm in now. :-)
When I worked in an office by myself I did tend to feel a little cut
off, but there's just enough traffic around a two-person office to get
to hear stuff and still be able to concentrate.

I definitely need people around: I know that I could never work from
home with any regularity or efficiency. <grin> I even prefer to learn
with other people around, and will be going to an actual campus for my
continuing ed/grad work instead of taking classes online.
