P.S. Please re-consider the "temp" situation. Many of us at this firm
were hired this way. And this firm is listed in Fortune 500's list of
100 most employee-friendly firms in the nation. The "temp to perm"
arrangement is simply a neat and clean way to determine whether the
employer and employee meet each other's expectations. (And of course,
sometimes there is a need for a truly temporary "temp," but that is
always discussed from the get-go. No sneaky business allowed.)

[WROTE GOOBERWRITER]
Tools are tools. Anyone with an IQ over 80 can be taught to use them.
[END QUOTE]

Unfortunately, too many experiences have revealed how that is not always
true. A young, intelligent candidate--even a former CEO (with a high
IQ) of a publishing company--may be out of touch with current publishing
tools and take four times as long to get a job done...and unable to
learn the tools effectively. (When you're high in the upper management
strata, it happens...) Hence the need for the "temp to perm"
arrangement. So easy to take software/typing/editing tests and to hand
in a writing sample, an editing sample, a stellar resume...not always so
easy to execute tasks A-Z in real time, within scope, within budget, on
deadline.
