We're among those who've used them. Before we switched to Frame, all of our
guides--some as large as 2500 pages--comprised multiple Word files. We used
RD codes to hang them all together. However, we didn't create single PDF
files. Instead, I added pdfmark code to add bookmarks to the other files
(chapters) in the guide.

For bookmarks and links within a file, I used a free plug-in called PDF
Links from www.byteryte.nl. It automatically creates links to the right
place on the page (unlike the PDFMaker macro).

Needless to say, I'm happy that I don't have to mess with that anymore. :-)
