I agree fully. Documents are data to be transferred and shared. What I disagree
with in the XML hype is the idea that FM, Word, and everyone else will play
seamlessly together allowing people to create, modify, and print with identical
results.

Which I suppose will be true as long as you happen to agree with how one package
in particular deals with formatting, typography, numbering, etcetera. Otherwise
XML will allow the sharing of content. The formatting and output will be up to
how each individual DTP treats/processes and then displays the XML.
