The only advanced degrees I've ever seen called for in job postings have
been in the technical fields for the products being documented, such as
advanced biology or pharma degrees for biotech/medical writers, etc.
Also, in most industries, higher pay for advanced degrees has been
replaced by a strict compensation-for-work formula, in which people are
supposed to receive equivalent pay for equivalent work. However, I have
seen non-technical advanced degrees accepted as equivalents for experience
in some companies, and in institutions involved in pure research, having one
is often a litmus test for employment whether it has anything to do with the
actual work being done or not.
