Perhaps, as others have noted, Word's spellchecker simply accepts many
two-letter and single-letter words as valid? I have to admit, I use the
spellchecker solely to help me catch the sorts of things that are easy to
miss onscreen, such as lower-case L's and I's that look identical in some
fonts. The spellchecker is abysmal (can't even recognize plurals formed by
adding "s" to new words), and is just one more argument for having a good
editor look over your text.
