On a more practical note....

If you hate activation but you need to work with MS products, note that MS
does offer activation-free options. There is the Open Licensing program that
lets you buy licenses for as few as 5 products for a slight discount, and no
activation.

I didn't see anything that would prevent five of us independent consultants
from legally sharing such a license in a virtual corporation (that is, if we
could stop flaming each other long enough :-).

I tried researching MS licensing further, but it gave me a headache, and I
swear I could see it changing while I was reading it.
