I figured I'd weigh in publicly at this point, because
I disagree somewhat. The real issue here is not
accounting for the last month, but in coming up with a
creditable reason for the current state of
unemployment. The writer left company X to take what
seemed like a better offer at company Y. "Personal
reasons" won't wash in this case, because if a
recruiter calls either company X or company Y, the
recruiter will probably find out why the writer really
left.
I think it would be better in the long run for the
writer to just say, "I made a mistake," than to give a
reason for leaving that won't be verified by former
superiors. The former is merely an admission of being
human. The latter could be interpreted as evasiveness
or worse.
