This analogy ignores the fact that the huskies don't have the option of
abandoning their owner and defecting to the owner of the dogsled
down the street who feeds his/her huskies more and better food and
may be amenable to taking on a really top performing huskie who
shows up looking for a new team to be harnessed to.  It's sometimes
easy in these economic times to forget that there are times when your
employees actually do have the ability to vote on their compensation
with their feet, but the business cycle has a way of reversing itself
up as well as down.
