I love EPS. But not everyone has EPS capabilities, or access to a graphic
artist, or hours to craft a simple flowchart or diagram on tight
deadlines.

If they don't have time to craft it in EPS, they sure don't have time to do so in GIF.

Which is to say: This 'argument' is spurious - EPS isn't a tool any more than GIF is. It is simply another graphics interchange format.

For us, it works great and the advantages of GIF far outweigh
the disadvantages.

They may do so for you and other people in specific situations. But if you recommend GIF to somebody who is looking for a FrameMaker/PDF solution, without mentioning the many shortcomings GIF has _for_them_, you are doing them a kind of disservice, don't you?

Not real sure, but I think I've seen GIF on the
Internet a few times.

Yes. And I've seen EPS in the printing industry a few times. Now, what do you think is easier - getting a good GIF from EPS or getting good EPS from GIF?

Every time you convert vector graphics to bitmap, you throw away huge amounts of information. Prudently, this is done as late as possible in the production process - if it is done at all - and only if you know that you won't need that information again.

Jan Henning
