But you're assuming that everyone thinks of "clicking" the same way you do. As I've explained, I think of the mouse button as the thing I click--it's certainly what makes the clicking sound.

So, for me, the verb "click" applies to what I do to the mouse button; "click on" is what I do to a simulated button in the GUI.

Only if we ascribe the same meaning to "click" as you do. Clearly, not everyone thinks of it that way, so it's quite right to say "In this context 'Click on' is perfectly acceptable."

That's what I meant when I said it's a matter of interpretation and preference.


Yup. Maybe "never" was too strong a word, after all.

And that "never" is all *I* was referring to when I wrote "horsefeathers."
