Truly caring about communication means taking the time to not make
your readers stumble, even in so small a communication as e-mail. That
our writing forces anyone to say, "Oh, he meant a singular verb here."
indicates that we just don't care about the reader's experience of our
"communication."

Nonstandard writing makes readers stumble, particularly when the
content is technical. Therefore, while grammar and conventions are
certainly dispensable in fiction or opinion pieces, in technical
writing they are extremely important. There is no such thing as
getting the technical details "correct" but making the reader stumble.
