a) definitely (It'll be a cold day in--um--some really hot place before I upgrade to 6, given the new gouging...I mean pricing scheme.)

b) bad idea; PDFMaker 5 works beautifully with Word 2000.

c) well, if it's working for you...but I understand your discomfort.

Go with (a).
