The scholars who try to figure out how old Biblical books
are on the basis of literary style decided years ago that
the Job story is very old indeed, perhaps the oldest
in the Bible. However, when computers were brought
in as an aid to these analyses, they contradicted
many of the accepted theories. I don't know where
Job is pegged these days.
In the usual page-numbering of the Bible, yes,
Abraham's story appears before Job's.
But in the whole chronology of Biblical begats, from
Adam through Noah and on and on, Job doesn't figure
at all. He's not on that timeline.
