You could probably find the answer in the archives, but "whirler" is short for "techwhirler," which is derived from "Techwr-L," the name of the list to which you posted your question, which, assuming "WTF" means what I think it means, rather than World Trade Federation, seems *way* too intense.
In case all that wasn't clear enough ;) the term "whirler" is used occasionally to refer to members of this discussion list.
