We do a similiar thing here but I am trying (with some success) to convince the powers that be to eliminate the assembly drawings and part numbers from the docs. That way, if a part number or small part of the unit changes, you will only have to update the Bill of Materials, Spare Parts Lists and Drawings, not the documents. Some folks are adamant about having those part and item numbers but if we can just refer them to those other docs, they can use them just as easily. Good luck.
