Subject:Don't say what you CANNOT do in documents? From:Geoff Hart <ghart -at- videotron -dot- ca> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Tue, 20 Apr 2004 10:49:56 -0400
John Posada wondered: <<I have a Note: that says: "Note: You cannot
build complex queries with multiple criteria since there is no way to
store a criteria while you add another. To create a query using more
than one criteria, you must first create an activity (see page 23)."
Assuming you know what the terms mean, what are the feelings about
putting something you cannot do in a document.>>
I can't begin to calculate how much time I've wasted trying to do
something seemingly logical and obvious that the software simply didn't
support or supported in another way or a way that was different from
all the other software I was using. Your approach is something writers
should do far more often, particularly when (as you've done) the "you
can't do this here" is supplemented by a pointer to the correct way to
do something.
One large nit to pick: both the last two "criteria" should be
"criterion". Both are singular, and like "media", "criteria" is always
plural in this context--"media" is only singular when you're talking
about television or newspapers taken collectively.
