I was once told that systems analysis, at least in theory, is a very
different task than programming. Something like the difference between a
physician and a pharmacist, maybe - one does the diagnosing, one does the
treating. On the other hand, in the companies I'm familiar with, a systems
analyst is a programmer with a promotion.
