I don't know if it fits in this thread but here
goes: You got two columns in a register; one is
names (of employees). so, as you enter the
office, you sign - against your name?
- beside your name?
It is common in India to say 'against', don't ask
me why?
No idea why. However, in American English, the above paragraph would be rendered:
You have two columns in a register; one is the Employee Name column. When you enter the office you sign next to your name.
Note that I'd still rewrite this to turn it into proper technical writing; all I've done here is the translation part of the job. The way I'd probably write the instruction is:
When you enter the office, find your name in the register and sign next to it.
