No, you have paraphrased it incorrectly. Here is what I said:

"My two-cents worth: In *most* cases, once the user has our technically written user guides in their hands, they do not need to be sold on the benefits of the product as they have already purchased it. Now all they want to do is find out how to use it."

I agree with you that once new versions of the product are created, marketing documentation is necessary to *alert the public* . Then, after reading the well-written marketing document(s) and the user decides to purchase the upgrade or new version, technical documentation, or a user guide, or at the very least, Release Notes are once again required to show them how to use it. Not to tell them why it is better than what they were using. What if the user never used the previous version? Then, why would they care how it worked in the past? All they want to do is learn how to use what they have in front of them.
