Printing to a PDF with PageMaker poses no special difficulty over any other
Acrobat printing.
First of all, I am using Acrobat 6 with all updates and PageMaker 7 with
all updates. Without going into any "special" settings for Acrobat, the
essential issue is that it be installed properly and in the correct order
with regard to other Adobe applications. With the current version of
Acrobat there will be an instance listed among all your printers named
"Adobe PDF" in addition to any physical printers or other virtual printers,
such as a WinFax printer.
One merely loads the required PageMaker file and prints it to "Adobe PDF."
That's it! Before writing this letter I loaded a 6-megabyte PageMaker
document (one-page) and printed to "Adobe PDF," which produced a 44-K PDF
file, a considerable saving of space. Again, without going into great
detail, this involved embedding the fonts used in the document and
optimizing the document for print in Acrobat, which, since these are my
default settings, involved no action at all.
If one has an older version of Adobe Distiller, perhaps bundled with one of
the Adobe products, and it was installed properly, one should print to that
instance as listed in their printer list.
Please find further explanations on the Adobe page or in one of the Adobe
forums, rather than writing to me for more information. I merely wanted to
point out that PageMaker poses no problems whatever regarding the making of
PDFs.

on with respect to its relationship with printers and printer drivers.
