Most of the XML editors I've used allow authors to turn off tags or even
use partial tags. They also constrain the elements you can use in a
context, which helps tremendously when you're working with an unfamiliar
structure. What few of them seem to handle well is mutually exclusive
but required attributes (where on or another MUST be used).

I would veer away from DW unless you're using a very simple structure.
Sounds like you're really ready to move up to something more full
featured.

BTW, is anyone familiar with Stylus Studio? I downloaded it recently
hoping to find another inexpensive option. From what I could tell, it
lacks some very basic functionality as an XML editor (for example,
selectable lists of elements).
