Out of dozens of interview situations--both for potential employers and clients--the only time I was ever asked to write docs on the spot, I had about 20 minutes in which to examine a fairly complicated dialog box, with no discussion of the context or how it fit into any larger process, and write a help page for it.

I didn't want to just crank out junk like "In the Password field, enter your password," so I didn't get much done in the 20 minutes. I also didn't get the job. (As it turned out, that was a *very* good thing.)

I agree with Mr. Bedeinger--take advantage of the opportunity. What have you got to lose?
