We have them in our manuals. Our user's guides are also used as
training materials, so people in training often find them helpful.

Also, the introduction/overview is JUST in that section, and not
repeated in the next one. I also find it a helpful place to stick
important information (like notes, warnings) that is expected to be
carried through the whole chapter.

And while I like them in the printed material, not so much in online
help. Normally the "overview" topic doesn't make it in to the help
system.
