For long-term archival storage I would look into optical media that is enclosed
in a protective case. Good choices include Magneto-Optical and DVD-RAM formats.

Magneto-Optical drives and media are faster and more reliable than DVD-RAM,
however MO is also more expensive than DVD-RAM.
