Yeah, I guess that makes sense because the relative amount of data loss
would be much smaller with a music CD. The idea of fresh backup every
so often still seems like a good one though.
And would the amount of times the CD was read make a difference? If so,
an alternative to the fresh backup every five yeas would be to make two
or three backups at once, and pack all but one away somewhere.

There's a difference between music and data CDs. Music CDs will continue
to play and you won't hear a few dropped bits.
Data, OTOH, drop a bit and you very well won't be able to read the file.
