I am not sure why. When I use advanced search and ask Google to match a
phrase exactly, I will sometimes get my results just fine. Sometimes, I
am told to remove the quotes for more results.

There seems to be a difference between putting a term in quotes and using
the standard search box on the front page, as opposed to doing an
advanced search which puts the term in quotes anyway.

Searching is a tricky thing. One little change can make the difference
relevant results and folderol.

I once had to train some employees so they could search our intranet
site. I decided to toss in a few general Internet lessons. We did a
search for microswitches (or perhaps it was micro switches). What came up
were adult pages. We also looked for "screws" and you can imagine what
came up.

You can also use "Ask Jeeves." I find myself using that SE as much as
Google. I think it handles exact phrase searches better, but I have not
tested it.
