Yes, there were the occasional phone calls from users. ...

Then there were the letters from distraught users ...

I put a "feedback" section in some of my manuals, inviting
users with criticism of suggestions on the docs to email
an address of the form:
writer -dot- P -at- E -dot- com
where P is replaced by product name and E by my employer.

That alias was set to forward tome as long as I was at
the company, changed when I left. I got no email on it,
but then I left before the product was out of beta.

Of course, I also included addresses for tech support
and marketing.
