The fixed ratio (3:2) might bear a fair resemblance to your W2 contractor
pay compared to your FTE pay, but only because of assumptions you're making
about the number of hours you'll work in a year. The ratio ought to be
pegged to an index of the health of the contract market. When jobs are
scarce, the ratio should reflect the fact that contractors are getting fewer
hours of work. The rate should go up.
One fixed ratio for all W2 contractors is not a reliable substitute for
knowing pretty exactly what you need, and billing accordingly. YOYO (yer on
yer own) figuring out how many billable hours to spread your income
requirements across.
Get it while you can.
