Bruce Byfield suggested:

"Pushups help immensely. So do repetitions with 5 pound bar
bells and various devices for improving hand strength. In all these cases,
the
point is build strength slowly through light repetitions. If you do 15
minutes a
day, within a few months, you probably won't be bothered by carpal tunnel
again."

With all due respect to Bruce, who is one of my favorite Techwr-l posters,
I'd like to point out that developing your own regimen isn't necessarily a
good idea. These exercises can make things worse or trigger another
flareup if you don't know what you're doing. I would still urge John to
see a physical therapist, who will be able to pinpoint the source of the
problem, provide exercises tailored to John's specific situation, and
monitor his pace so that he doesn't cause further injury.
