I use a Mini-Disc recorder quite extensively. The record quality is superb
(providing you have a decent microphone) and the recorders and media are
relatively inexpensive.

Sony's new Hi-MD format provides up to 45 hours of recording on one disc and you
can connect it to the USB port on your computer where it can act as a removable
1 GB drive for transferring any kind of file.
