You are so very right in saying that high tech is
"go-go". But as Einstein said: "Never confuse motion
with action." Einstein must have worked in IT, you
can not convince me otherwise!
A recent editorial in Business Week (sorry, can not
recall the edition), stated that "All social
[especially work world] progress occurs through proper
manipulation of the levers of fear and greed [by
management]." First management pulls the greed lever,
and the employees "go-go". Then management pulls the
fear lever, and the employees "go-go" again.
Progress? - hardly, try dead-end behavior.
While it is true that many older folks lack initiative
because we are too comfortable or too beaten down,
just as many - if not more - of us don't look so
"go-go" because we place a higher priority on planning
and introspection, and resist having our chains
yanked. We have learned the value of such an approach
through experience.
Einstien was right; the goal is to be more efficient
and effective - not just to execute faster.
