Re: Converting MS Word to PDF using Distiller 6.0- any caveats?

I am regularly doing this now and I've had to make a few adjustments to the
way I work with Word.

1. Hyperlinks are retained, so the TOC and other hyperlinked fields will
jump to the section when clicked.

2. Autonumbered headings do not have their numbers included in the
Bookmarks list.  So if this is important, and you want more than the
heading text you will need to convert your autonumbering to text before you
create the PDF.  The Bookmarks list is useful to users who are looking at
the document online as it provides a ready made TOC in the window that can
be used to navigate around the document instead of scrolling or going back
to TOC in the document.

To convert the autonumbered paragraphs to text run this macro:

Sub ConvertNumbersToText()
    ActiveDocument.ConvertNumbersToText
End Sub

3. I use REF fields rather than Word's cross references, and usually have
one for the heading number and one for the heading text.  When I convert
autonumbered paragraphs to text, these convert the REF fields pointing to
the autonumber to "0" and the REF fields pointing to the heading text to
include the text number, the tab, and the heading text.  So I stopped using
a REF field for the heading number, and changed my autonumbering definition
so that the number is followed by a space rather than a tab.

I don't think there are any other things that I need to do.

I am unsure if this is still the case, but distilling into PDF will
not automatically create hyperlinks from Word. For example, your
table of contents will not hyperlink to the referenced page.
