At the risk of offending non-religious people, I have to say that David's last sentence is downright Biblical.

1 A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but harsh words stir up anger.

David's right because what you say can be taken completely differently depending on your way of saying it. Isn't that some of what tech writing is all about? How you deliver something (not just the words that you say) can make people think that it's something worth reading or something to ignore.

You didn't know that technical writing could be Biblical, did you? :-)
