I recommend Michael Swan's _Practical English Usage_ (OUP), ISBN 0 19 431197
x, to anyone who needs to keep up with the structure of standard European
English. It's written for learners of English, but it covers all those
points you never thought you'd need to know as a native speaker such as
embedded clauses and ellipsis of relative pronouns. And copular verbs. Who
would have thought you'd need to know?
