I write the documentation for a software company and also play a role in
reviewing documentation specs and providing the text that we use in the
interface. We would like to follow Microsoft to get Microsoft
certification and we also use the Microsoft Manual of Style for
Technical Publications as a reference. However, even though everything I
can find shows the standard to be to have the keys in all caps (CTRL+V),
all my office programs have the shortcut with initial caps and then
lower case on the menus in the software. If you are using Microsoft
Outlook, for example, the File menu has shows the Print command shortcut
as Ctrl+P instead of CTRL+P.

Does anyone know why they deviate from there standard here? Is this a
different standard for all the UI text? I tried to find some additional
examples other than the software menus but couldn't find anything.
