Has anyone ever seen (well-edited) books or documents with a table of
contents like this:

1.0 Title of Section 1
2.0 Title of Section 2
3.0 Title of Section 3
4.0 Appendix 1
5.0 Appendix 2
6.0 Appendix 3

instead of

1.0 Title of Section 1
2.0 Title of Section 2
3.0 Title of Section 3
Appendix 1
Appendix 2
Appendix 3

If you have, can you refer me to an 'authoritative source' that recommends
numbering appendices as in the first example above?

Thanks.

elizabeth
