Speaking of elements that fall atop a page, we are being driven slowly
mad by trying to use a Word template that gives different results for
level heads that fall atop a page depending on how we broke the
previous page. If the previous page is full, so that the level head
starts the next page naturally, it falls a certain distance (1/1
inches) from the top of the page. If the previous page ended with a
page break, it falls a quarter-inch lower. The style "Level 3 Head with
Break," defined in our template, falls three-eighths of an inch lower!
Once we noticed this problem (and it's obvious in our printed books how
the previous pages ended), we started breaking pages with paragraph
marks. (Oh, the horror! the horror!) I am not responsible for
maintaining the template, and I'm rusty at it anyway. I've taken a look
at the styles and I don't see any obvious reason why their position
atop pages depends on how the previous page ended.
