The quick way to extract graphics from a Word document is to do a Save
as HTML (Save as Web Page). The graphics are saved in web-compatible
formats. (My test document just produced one gif, one jpg and one png.)

Note: I am not advocating use of the resulting HTML. But it does get the
graphics out as separate files.
